I was first introduced to CrossFit back in 2009, and toyed with some of the workouts for a while in a regular gym. However, it was not until after I spectated at the 2011 CrossFit Games European Regional that I decided to fully commit. Experiencing the camaraderie and excitement between the competitors, and support from all the other CrossFit gyms made me want to be part of it, and motivated me to train. My first workout was Cindy, a benchmark workout of: as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of 5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 squats. I felt I did pretty well, with 20 rounds however none of my pull ups were fully extended, and most of my squats were borderline to the required depth. I struggled with pull ups for a while, but through proper coaching and perseverance I eventually learned them; I have since improved my Cindy score to over 30 rounds (full reps!).
The last four years of CrossFit have made me a more rounded athlete, and it has opened up my mind to varied styles of training and new skills that I would not have learned elsewhere. I am excited to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained to our members, and see them improve. I have been fortunate to qualify and compete in several competitions, including: The London Throwdown (now The Athlete Games) in 2012 and 2013 against some of the best athletes in the UK and Europe. I also represented Team Scotland in the 4 Nations 2012; and more recently competed at Strength in Depth 2014 representing Team Train (Train Manchester). Competition is something that I believe everybody should try, whether it is the CrossFit Games Open, or an in-house competition, there is no better way to push yourself and find your limits.
Weaknesses? In CrossFit, my biggest weakness is rowing; outside of the gym my biggest weakness is ice cream!

I first started CrossFit in 2011, I loved it but hated it at the same time. I turned up to my first session, did my workout and sadly never went back! I wanted to do it, but the pressure of the clock and going with other people was just too much. I had a fear of coming last & I was overly competitive and critical of myself! This turned into a mental challenge.
A few months later I was leaving the gym and spotted Joe, Andrew and some friends doing a workout, I was sick of being by myself, doing the same routine and not getting any satisfaction or gains from my training. The next day I decided to join them and we did ‘Helen’ (3 rounds for time: 400m run, 21 kb swings, 12 pull ups). This time with a different mind set, I wasn’t thinking about where I’d finish or who was watching me, I focused on a strategy, put my head down and got on with it! I’ve done CrossFit ever since.
CrossFit has changed my outlook on fitness completely, I became more concerned with beating my times, lifting more weight and learning new gymnastic skills, over what I look like or getting too sweaty!
I went on to enter the CrossFit open in 2013, then entering again in 2014 & finishing just 4 places shy of the top 200 fittest female athletes in Europe. I have since had a baby and was able to train throughout my pregnancy, I started back training again not long after having my daughter and within 5 months getting my first muscle up. This time in another mindset; more focused than ever and enjoying every second of training, with competitions coming up this year I look forward to wearing my ‘Hawk Eye’ vest with pride!

My first CrossFit workout was at a Hotel gym in 2010, it was Murph! I was currently playing Semi-Pro football and thought I had a good engine… Murph proved me wrong. From then on I was hooked, training all hours, 7 days a week with multiple sessions, but it took me a few years to realise intensity is key, not volume, hence my training nowadays is more like 5 days a week limiting myself to an hour for each session and actually taking full rest days.
My achievements in CrossFit are competing in the CrossFit Games European Regionals twice (2011 in Bolton, England finishing 28th & 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark finishing 35th), plus multiple finals at the Athlete Games (previously the London Throwdown) including 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015.

I started CrossFit in 2011 because I was looking for something more than just being another member at a local globo gym. I needed something to be held accountable to, while also seeking for something challenging and fun.
The first workout I ever did was Cindy. I remember it well because the pull ups destroyed me as I could only do them strict, which of course was not the most efficient way. I got around 11-12 rounds that first time. After a few years of varied CrossFit training, I repeated Cindy and got 30+ rounds! CrossFit works!!!
After two years of being a member of a box, I decided to move across the world to Canada to open up my own! I co-owned ‘Hydra CrossFit’ for two years. I was the Head coach and programmer for the gym. We started off with only one member in a class, and grew to almost 100 members within the two year time span!
My biggest achievements in CrossFit were qualifying for the CrossFit Games Canada East Regional in 2014. I managed to come 4th in the 50’s workout, and 10th in the rope climb sprint workout which helped me to finish in 31st position overall.
Another big achievement was qualifying for ‘The Best of the Best’ competition which only gave out 12 spots across the whole of Canada. I was fortunate enough to compete with many CrossFit Games athletes at this event, including Lucas Parker, Tyson Takasaki and many more.

I First started CrossFit in 2013 and from my first session I was hooked! For years I found myself looking at people from different sports wishing I could do what they could do; run faster, lift heavier, become better at gymnastics which I had tunnel vision thinking I could only pick one. CrossFit has taught me otherwise showing me that everyone can improve in all these areas with a well thought out and structured training programme. CrossFit keeps fitness exciting and helps people achieve their goals, for me, I have not found a better training methodology.
I pursued Physiotherapy from my love of human movement and performance. I feel that an individual should not only exercise to improve their skills in functional movements & increase strength and stamina, but also be able to control their body in the way it was designed to move; with precision and ease, free from injury and limitation.
My favourite CrossFit workout is Nancy (5 rounds for time: 400m Run, 15 Overhead Squats), a workout that never fails to test multiple components of fitness.
My weakness: Endurance, I’m always a fan of heavy lifting & Dairy Milk!
